What is 5G internet?
5G internet if the fifth generation of wireless internet, making leaps and
bounds in the field of cellular connection. It is said by large service
providers like Verizon and T-mobile that 5g will be upwards of 100 times
faster than its predecessors 4G and LTE. Exploration of this technology
could be extremely beneficial to our lives, but also comes with some
drawbacks.
What is bandwidth?
Before diving into the details of what make 5g a truly monumental advancement
in a technologically reliant society, you need to understand bandwidth.
Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be sent across a "pathway". By
increasing bandwidth, more data can be sent between devices in a given time,
meaning download speeds will be increased greatly.
How does 5G work?
It an increase in bandwidth that makes 5g what it is. Wireless connection is
accomplished by sending data over radio waves to a station known as a cell. Cells
store information and send them back out, acting as a middle man between you
and where ever you are getting or sending information. Cells are sporadically placed
to cover as much geographical area as possible, ensuring that as many people
as possible have access to this form of connection. The amount of bandwidth
determines how fast you can send data to these cells, as well as how fast they
can send it to you. This along with other forms of internet like WiFi are
what connect the world on a virtual level.
Pros of 5g?
With the addition of 5g, our lives will become much faster
and more productive. Due to in increase in bandwidth, big
service providers like Verizon and T-mobile say that 5g is
up to 100 times faster than 4g, which is what most people
use currently. Another big advantage of 5g is the creation
of network slicing. This the temporary creation of a
subnetwork, a network broken off from the rest of the internet
to reduce the amount of information being processed. These
subnetworks will be able to focus their speeds depending on
how a user wishes, prioritizing certian tasks for maximun efficiency.
Cons of 5g?
Since 5g has been implemented, there have been various downsides.
One of the most notable cons is the cost of installing new cell
towers that are compatible with 5g. This will take lots of time
effort and money, but the results should be worth it. Another con
of 5g networking is the privacy and security issues. Because
the technology is relatively new, the security is slightly underdeveloped.
This will fix with time as better security measures are made.
